Record the material and location

Note whether the affected item is wool, another garment, a rug or upholstery. Include where it was stored and when it was last examined. Damage alone does not establish the insect responsible.

Keep clues associated with the item

Describe any visible insects, larvae or shed material and the part of the item involved. Use an existing photograph if available. A moth elsewhere in the home is not automatically evidence of clothes moth activity.

Discuss handling before relocating belongings

Moving everything can make the original pattern harder to explain. Ask which items need isolation, cleaning or inspection and how to prepare the storage area for access.

Treat the room and the contents as separate questions

A pest assessment, specialist textile cleaning and furniture or building work may have different scopes. Confirm who handles each task and what the proposed quote covers.
