Start with the shelf where you found the signs

Keep pantry evidence organized when describing insects, damaged packaging or suspected rodent activity around stored food.

Name the shelf and the product

Describe the item, packaging and position where the evidence appeared. Small insects in stored food, a hole in a bag and an animal sighting are different observations. Avoid treating them as a confirmed single pest.

Check accessible nearby storage

Look at other visible packaging in the same area without moving affected goods throughout the property. Keep notes about what you actually saw and which shelves have not been checked.

Ask how affected items should be handled

Stored-product pests can originate in individual food items. The appropriate response depends on identification and the material involved. Ask for specific handling and preparation advice rather than applying a product around food on a guess.

Include the access requirements

Mention fixed shelves, heavy stock or equipment blocking the area. At a business, identify who controls stock handling and waste arrangements, and confirm the work schedule directly.
